SCSIM held its Fall Forum on October 1st, welcoming three speakers with the theme “The State of the Art CIO.”

Jennifer Heibel, VP of Technology / Web / Digital Media at LACMA, shared perspectives on innovating in a museum campus and how she has partnered with outside organizations to create the Art + Technology Lab, discovering ways technology influences art and enables art discovery.

John MacDorman of Gartner shared the evolving knowledge, talents and competencies that IT leaders will need to possess to be digitally ready. His research highlights how IT teams need to be both “marathon runners” and “sprinters” to quickly develop solutions that can ultimately be supported for the long term.

oct-event-4Finally, Craig Butler (CIO @ Workday) presented a concept that IT needs to become more design/solution oriented rather than simply filling the requirements, with a mindset similar to a Product Manager to work with the business to create competitive advantage through technology.
