Will expensive, complex, hard to deploy legacy ERP applications finally expire and be replaced by less expensive, easy to use, nimble applications that live in the cloud? We invite you to find out.

The demise of ERP, Enterprise Resource Planning, has long been rumored as a new generation of cloud based applications and platforms have emerged in the marketplace. On premise ERP solutions dominated the landscape in an era of manufacturing, but now we live in a world changed by a services-based economy. The advent of “the Cloud” has raised the question again: Will this be the end of ERP as we knew it?

Traditional ERP is expensive, challenging to deploy, and often hard to use. New cloud offerings are purported to be nimble, easy to use, and much cheaper—often offering a low monthly fee as opposed to a huge capital expenditure. But if old ERP does die, what will really take its place? Will cloud applications be able to handle the complexity of financial, HR, and supply chain needs? Is pay as you go really cheaper? What about security? How will service outages handled?

Please join us for a dynamic and interactive evening as we hear from distinguished thought leaders on the potential death of ERP. We’ll explore whether the ERP’s death has been greatly exaggerated or if it’s real and what’s replacing it. (Mourning attire not required).

While some may believe that only the likes of behemoth retailers, telecom giants, and global financial institutions face “Big Data” issues, the reality is that every organization faces exponential growth in data. Even the humblest of sources such as point of sale systems or system logs can generate enormous sets of data that quickly become intractable.

What do these data sets tell us, if anything? How do we tackle and benefit from them? Please join us for a dynamic and interactive evening as we hear from distinguished thought leaders on the topic of Big Data. We’ll explore evolving technologies for managing it, gain insight into how it impacts organizations, and engage in some interesting fun dialog on how it’s changing our world.

In this program, Beth Summers, PhD will share concrete tips and techniques for people development. She will briefly review current programmatic best practices, and then focus on specific examples of how to develop individuals and teams as a leader and manager. Her insights into 2-fers, 3-fers, how to “developmentally delegate,” conduct developmental staff meetings and create stretch assignments is both entertaining and immediately applicable to your world. She will bring examples from her decades of experience, where Beth has observed and coached thousands of people. She will discuss examples of “leader bootstrapping” she learned while on the scene in the early days of Apple when unprecedented growth drove demand for leader development. She will cover some of the best practices learned from the Tom Peters Group, Charles Schwab and Dell during their high growth craziness. And finally, she will share expertise she learned during the last 15 years, where Beth has been a leading consultant in leadership development and a Master Associate for the Lominger leadership development toolkit (now a part of Korn-Ferry International).Further description of her background is on her site www.BethSummers.com where some tips and examples are included as podcasts.

You analyzed the options, looked at competitive pricing, put pressure on the vendor, so you know you got a great deal and your company is going to get all the value it negotiated, right? Not so fast!

IT organizations are often some of the biggest consumers of budget in many organizations and they often have the most complex purchasing objectives and constraints. Objective evidence indicates that most of us will have “left money on the table”, didn’t buy the goods and services we thought we did, and now have a contract that isn’t doing what it was supposed to.

We invite you to join us as we explore innovative and better ways to acquire IT products and services. Our distinguished and experienced presenters will share their insights gained from numerous years in their respective fields, having seen literally thousands of “deals”. Hear new perspectives on key areas of sourcing, negotiating, contract terms, and vendor performance. You are guaranteed to learn something that will help you get more for your IT dollars!*

September 29, 2011 | Long Beach Marriott
Time: 3:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Location: Long Beach Marriott
4700 Airport Plaza Drive Long Beach, CA 90815 MAP

We are pleased to have Tom Soderstrom, IT CTO of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as our keynote speaker. He will explore with us the insatiable appetite for IT innovation and how we can take practical and proactive steps to shape strategies that stand up to these seemingly unending demands. Inherent in all of this wave of new technology of course is the user interface. We are fortunate to have Ray Valdez of Gartner join us to educate and enlighten us on “user experience” and to share with us the transformative shifts in software caused by concepts such as “gamifying”. The forum will be complemented by a panel of distinguished leaders and experts on key technologies that are shaping their industries. We’re excited to share the opportunity to interact with these luminaries and your peers in this relaxed setting.

Tom Soderstrom, JPL

Tom is the IT Chief Technology Officer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He leads a collaborative, practical, and hands-on approach with JPL and industry to investigate emerging IT technology trends that are relevant to JPL, NASA, and large enterprises — and to infuse these into JPL’s environment.

Tom has led remote teams and large scale IT best practices and tools development and change efforts in small startups, large commercial companies, in international venues, and in the US Government arena.

Tom serves on many industry- and government advisory boards, steering committees and awards committees and is a frequent speaker on the future of Information Technology. He is currently consulting with industry leaders on where the Government and industry is heading in information technology.

Topic: limITless – How can we satisfy the emerging insatiable demand for IT

The pace of IT innovations has increased dramatically. Once IT consumers have tasted new capabilities that delivered quickly and works well, they want more, they want it even faster, and they want it customized. The pace is snowballing and is driving a possibly insatiable demand for IT. This talk will investigate the current and future key growth areas of IT (the industry trends for the next IT decade), the major challenges, some crucial opportunities, and propose practical and proactive steps on how we can tie this together to create a future for IT that is truly limITless.

Ray Valdes, Gartner

Ray Valdes is research director in Gartner Research, where he is part of the Internet Platforms and Web Services team.

Mr. Valdes has 15 years of experience in software product development and seven years of experience in Internet development and management. Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Valdes was on the senior management team at CKMP, a leading vendor of Internet portal solutions and services for affinity/membership organizations. Mr. Valdes has also served as vice president-engineering for an Internet music company, as well as head of software development for a wireless infrastructure vendor. In addition, he was managing director of content for the first vertical portal for IT professionals, known as inquiry.com. Mr. Valdes has managed software and product development in the areas of hospital information systems, electronic publishing systems and pen-based computing.

Topic: User Experience Design: From Web to Mobile to Social

Many organizations now realize that a high-quality user experience can provide competitive business advantage. Enterprises are adopting the technologies and practices pioneered by leading consumer Web properties (e.g., Amazon, Facebook and Google). The challenge is that the Web is evolving toward social and mobile, which means designers must stretch further, to cover these new bases. A more recent trend is “gamification” — applying the principles of game design to non-game systems, including enterprise applications.

What is user experience (UX) design, and how do leading companies use it for competitive advantage?

How is the practice of UX design evolving to meet requirements for mobile and social?

What are realistic and pragmatic approaches that organizations can adopt to meet rising user expectations for high-quality UX?

Complementing our key note speakers is a diverse panel of technology leaders, each bringing a different facet of “cool technology” to light. Our moderator Brandon Johnson, CIO for Resources Global Professionals, will host an interactive panel discussion where we delve into the different ways that vendors and customers are experiencing the transformative effects of these technologies. Comprising this panel are the following distinguished professionals:

Alan Arora, VP of Customer Facing Technology, First American
Mazda Marvasti, Chief Architect of Advanced Analytics, VMware
Chris Reed, DCV Sector Manager, INX
Dorion Whitlock, Sr. Technical Advisor, Microsoft
